Adult Education Tutor

Adult Education tutors work with adults who have basic or below basic literacy skills. Tutors in this program complete an orientation session and a 15-hour training before being matched with students. Then, they receive follow-up support and the option to attend in-service trainings throughout their tutoring commitment. Tutors in this program work with students for two, one-hour sessions each week. Adult Education tutors commit to working with their students for at least one year.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutor

ESOL tutors work with immigrant adults who want to learn English. These students come to the Lee County Literacy Council with a variety of literacy and English language skill levels. Tutors in this program complete an orientation session and a 15-hour training before being matched with students. They then receive follow-up support and the option to attend in-service trainings throughout their tutoring commitment. Tutors in this program work with students for one, two-hour session each week. ESOL tutors commit to working with their students for at least one year. Using contact form at bottom of this page, request information more about this program and volunteering.

Augustine Project® Tutor

Augustine Project® tutors work with children from low-income families who read, write, and/or spell below grade level. Tutors in this program complete an initial orientation and a 70-hour training. They then receive follow-up support and the option to attend in-service trainings throughout their tutoring commitment. Tutors in this program work with their students twice per week for 50 minutes each session. Augustine Project® tutors commit to working with their students for at least one school year.

Other Ways to Volunteer

We have short-term volunteer opportunities for those who cannot make the commitment to become a tutor and for tutors who want to get more involved. Volunteers can help at one of our annual events contact for opportunities.  We also occasionally need office, graphic design, or IT assistance.
